Welcome to the Cardiac Care Centre at Craigavon Area Hospital.

The cardiology department encompasses 32 inpatient beds.
8 beds are allocated for critical coronary care, the remainder of which is used for the treatment of a wide range of cardiac conditions, both acute and chronic.

Inpatient cardiology is just one of the services provided within the speciality. In addition invasive and non- invasive services can be offered on an outpatient basis.

The unit offers a multi-disciplinary approach to its patients; headed by 3 cardiac consultants, 1 department manager, 3 ward sisters, staff nurses, auxiliaries, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, ECG technicians, dieticians and ancillary staff.

Cardiac rehabilitation is provided from admission to discharge with an additional service extending to the community. A cardiac rehabilitation team and a secondary prevention nurse provide this aspect of your care.

As a pro-active unit we acknowledge the need for our care to be evidenced based. Within the unit, a research fellow and a research nurse provide ongoing research.

The cardiology unit provides a range of services which takes into consideration both planned and unplanned needs. Planned services are largely non-invasive work, however at present our invasive investigatory work is increasing with further expansion of this service planned for the future.

Unplanned services involve admission from the accident and emergency department and a nurse-led cardiac ambulance. The nurse led cardiac ambulance facilitates the provision of acute quality care to the community, with the proposed delivery of thrombolysis treatment in the community in the near future.

We appreciate the important role of family members in the patient’s hospital journey and therefore facilitate access to patients as far as possible. The exception to this is a period in the afternoon from 1pm- 2.45pm where the patients are encouraged to relax and rest. We therefore try to protect this period of time for the patients as far as possible.

Visiting times are as follows:

3pm- 4.30pm.

7pm- 8.30pm.
